Holly Ashley & Associates provides mental healthcare services that recognizes the unique cultural experience of black people and uses culturally specific strategies to promote health and mental health in African Americans. Our services include individual, couples, teen, and family therapy. We provide a discreet, private, supportive, compassionate, and non-judgmental atmosphere to discuss your concerns.
Telehealth
Currently, our services are offered via telehealth appointments on a HIPAA-compliant platform. Telehealth is therapy delivered online or virtually through the use of a computer, smartphone, or tablet that makes care more accessible and is equally effective and more convenient than in-person office visits.
Walk and Talk Therapy
Traditional therapy doesn’t involve much movement. Although the therapist may give you homework to do, which could involve getting some exercise, you don’t always get a chance to move your body in the office. During Walk and Talk therapy, exercise is incorporated into the session. Instead of sitting face-to-face with your therapist, which can be stressful and make you feel as though you’re on the spot, you walk with your therapist and discuss your issues as you go. Spending time outdoors can reduce levels of cortisol, which is a stress hormone. Studies show that being in nature can also relieve hypertension, depression, anxiety, and attention disorders.
We can assist you regardless of where you are in Maryland, the District of Columbia, or Virginia.
Psychological Evaluations
Our team approach to psychological testing includes professionals who initially assess your concerns in a virtual intake. We then determine the individualized battery of tests that will help uncover your unique challenges and strengths. Each assessment is tailored to the individual and is given a full psychological interview, which includes psychosocial history, medication and drug history, developmental history, and educational and vocational history. All assessment results are thoroughly explored through indirect feedback sessions with clients, their families, and referring clinicians.

Clinical Supervision
Looking for a practice focused on providing high-quality mental healthcare to Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) for your training needs? Holly Ashley & Associates provides exceptional clinical review, teaching, and training, to assist you in developing good clinical and professional skills. We maintain all records of our supervision sessions, complete supervision paperwork for your application, and guide & support you throughout the application process for your state exam and state licensure.
The fee for outside individual supervision is $150/hr. Supervision is offered at no charge for in-house clinicians.
Psychotherapy for Student-Athletes
We provide mental health therapy and life coaching to student-athletes from various athletic disciplines. We believe in the importance of understanding the connection between a positive mindset and mental health when nurturing athletes to their potential.
Athletes struggle with anxiety and depression just like anyone else. They deal with trauma and grief, whether caused by sport, injury, or loved ones. Being an athlete in a romantic or familial relationship can also be highly stressful. Despite all these stressors, athletes are expected to be present during competition, workouts, and practice.
We also work to help student-athletes address the grief associated with facing the end of their athletic careers and improve their general well-being. Our goal is to assist them in making the most of their life when their athletic careers have ended and provide coaches and families with a greater understanding of what athletes are experiencing and how to navigate through the challenges.
Life Coaching
We provide our clients with an outstanding opportunity to focus and move forward in their personal, or professional goals. Our life coaches are highly trained to assist people in realizing their full potential and achieving success in all aspects of their lives. Life coaching differs from counseling and mentoring in that it focuses on solutions rather than problems.
Life coaching, often known as personal coaching or simply "coaching," is a one-on-one, collaborative process in which you (the client) work with a skilled professional (the coach) to achieve your specific life goals. These goals could be anything from improving self-confidence, weight loss, a career shift, to increasing motivation. Coaching is provided to people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and occupations, but they all have one thing in common - a desire to achieve more in their personal or professional lives. Whatever your objectives, a professional coach will provide you with motivation, accountability, and support, ensuring that you stay focused and take action week after week.
INSURANCE AND FEES
Good Faith Estimate
Beginning in January 2022, healthcare providers are required to provide an estimate of costs to clients who are paying for services without using their insurance plan. Holly Ashley & Associates will provide you with a written estimate of what your costs could be if you come to counseling. The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and does not require the uninsured (or self-pay) individual to obtain the items or services from any of the providers or facilities identified in the Good Faith Estimate. For detailed information on this law visit cms.gov/nosurprises.

Insurance
Effective April 1, 2024, Holly Ashley & Associates no longer accepts most insurance plans directly. Be assured that working with an OON provider like us does not have to be financially burdensome. Many health insurance plans still include OON mental health benefits, which means your insurance may cover a significant portion of the cost of therapy.
For example, depending on your specific insurance plan, you could be reimbursed for 50-90% of the therapy session fees. This means the out-of-pocket cost for a $200 session could be reduced to just $20-$100 after your insurance reimbursement.
Our therapy rates will vary depending on each clinician’s experience and specialization. Contact your insurance provider to verify what services are available for you and obtain information on how to get reimbursed for out-of-network counseling/psychotherapy services. You will be expected to pay the counseling fee directly to Holly Ashley & Associates when services are rendered, and we will provide you a Superbill that you can then submit to your insurance provider. If you plan to submit a Superbill for reimbursement, contact your insurance provider before your first appointment and notify your therapist that you will require a Superbill.
Payment Methods
All payments are due at the time of service and payable by major credit or debit cards, CareCredit, Flex Spending Accounts, and Health Savings Accounts benefits.
If you are using an HSA or FSA card, we encourage you to verify that your plan covers counseling/psychotherapy before your appointment so there are no payment problems.
All clients must have an active credit card on file before their first appointment. This card will be charged for services unless you request to pay via an alternative payment method at your appointment.
If you plan to submit a Superbill to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement, you are still expected to pay your full appointment fee at the time of service. The insurance will reimburse you directly if they cover counseling/psychotherapy services.
Affordable and Sliding Scale Options
We understand that sometimes life circumstances make adding anything else to the budget difficult. Finding options for affordable therapy can be difficult. At Holly Ashley & Associates, we strive to make our therapy services affordable for all and offer a sliding scale when needed and requested. Our sliding scale ranges from $75-$100, depending on the need and preference of the therapist. Please notify our office before scheduling if you want more information about sliding scale options.
We require proof of income and household size to verify eligibility for sliding scale pricing before your first appointment.
